nervous anatomy of the porus acousticus

there are two cranial nerves that enter the porus acousticus in the petrous part of the temporal bone: CN 7 & 8 or facial and vestibulocochlear.  the nerves actually split up into four upon entering the meatus.  the porus can be divided into quadrants like so:

(anterior points to left of screen, inferior is down, thus this is the right side)

facial - | - superior vestibular
..........................................................
cochlear - inferior vestibular

if you look at a coke can and a 7-up can, the 7-up can logo can be read when the can is upight (UP) and the cocacola can’s logo is read when the can is on its side (DOWN): thus 7 UP and COCHLEAR (cocacola) DOWN.  you’ll know what i mean if you have the cans in front of you.

also, the vertical bar in the illustration above is “bill’s bar,” dividing the facial and sup vestibular nn.
the line of periods is, of course, the transverse crest.
