Anybody have advice on the most comfortable klogs/shoes to wear to begin residency? I love my birkenstocks but maybe there’s something more comfortable out there. Please advise before I spend this spare $100 I have!

whatever you do, i don’t care how comfortable they are, stay away from the Danskos. Everybody wears them but i know you are cooler than that.

I wear Crocs and they’re okay except blood gets on your socks quite often.

Air Jordans are the best! It may sound stupid, but try them.

Whatever. I wear Danskos. They’re the most comfortable shoes I’ve found for standing all day. I used to wear hiking boots (Hi-Tecs) which are a close second. The key is to buy something that slips on and off easily, because you’ll be in and out of bed as an intern and junior quite a bit.
Never tried the Birks.

Danskos = chinese feet binding… I almost broke my ankle trying them on in the store. It feels like you’re standing downhill in high heels. They were not for me. I couldn’t imagine tearing down a hall in those things… A few of my classmates had yard sales turning corners on surgery call.
I wore running shoes on my sub-Is and loved them. They are North Face and have a special lacing system that you can pop out to take them off and just twist to tighten. They also were good for going through airport security. See pic. They were designed for ultramarathoning.

For clinics I liked the Merrell clogs for $70 at REI.
Bottom line: find what works for you.

you guys are totally missing out..... it took me 7 years to realize that the perfect combination of pluses from all of the brands mentioned above is LL Bean.

Nice, not too stylish. Neurosurgeons aren’t too stylish though (I wonder what is medicine’s most stylish specialty). How do you manage to escape chronic athlete’s foot though?

Plastics, hands down. All very image conscious.
Clean socks at least every day, and Desenex or some spray/powder type thing.
