North Shore/LIJ has both an AOA and an ACGME residency. The ACGME one just started matching residents last year while the AOA one has been around for a while. Supposedly, this year, they’re taking two residents for each program.

Osteopathic - 06 December 2011 07:33 AM North Shore/LIJ has both an AOA and an ACGME residency. The ACGME one just started matching residents last year while the AOA one has been around for a while. Supposedly, this year, they’re taking two residents for each program.
They are transitioning to ACGME only and are no longer paticipating in AOA match ( http://opportunities.osteopathic.org/search/search_details_print.cfm?program_id=126116 ).

No, they’re keeping both programs going forward, they’re just making them separate. They are interviewing both DO & MD candidates for this year’s match. The site you linked even has this part:
“How many new trainees do you intend to recruit next year? 2”

They took 1 AOA and 1 ACGME resident last year. In the future it will be 2 ACGME residents and no AOA residents

The rumor mill has been running crazy with this program. Here is what the chairman told me:
The AOA & ACGME programs act as two residencies, completely independent of each other, out of two separate hospitals in the North Shore/LIJ health system. Both will continue to exist. The ACGME program is getting approved for a second resident this year. The AOA program is graduating two residents this year, so they have two spots to fill as they are accredited for 12 spots by the AOA. They will continue taking two AOA residents and two ACGME residents each year. He assured me that while the AOA program is changing, it is NOT going to go out of existence.
Not trying to be argumentative, just re-stating what was told to me.

As a side note, since the OP won’t be applying for another 7 years or so, it’s worthwhile to mention that Neurosurgery programs can rise and fall from year to year, depending on circumstances. And unless you want to follow these trends, might as well tune back in the year before you apply.
