superchocolatebear - 11 April 2011 05:11 PM Dear UH gurus,
Hoping to pick a sub-i for September (will be my 3rd away since home school doesn’t offer one).
July - Tier II program in the South
August - Tier 1 program out West
September - UW, CCF, Emory, OHSU, Baylor, MGH, Duke
Would of course love a great experience, but a good letter/higher chance of matching would be more important.
Any suggestions?
Why not apply and see which of these schools offer you a spot and then ask. For my money though, I’d do Baylor.

superchocolatebear - 11 April 2011 05:16 PM For all but 2 of those schools, I’ve secured tentative spots that just depend on me sending in VSAS...so I don’t have to worry too much about that, from what I was told.
Ok, now you gotta explain how you managed to do that. Did you just contact them and ask? Couldnt you get bumped for in-house students still?

Contacted them as mentioned on respective websites. I’m not sure what the deal is with in-housers.
Let’s get this back on track...any suggestions on the programs above?

Where is your medical school? If it’s not in the NE, and you are seriously interested in relocating there if needed, I would do MGH or another program in the NE.
If you’re already from the cold angry coast, I have heard excellent things about Emory’s Sub-I (and the program as a whole) from people this last applicant cycle.

Top 10 med school in the NE
...you go to a top-10 medical school that doesn’t have a neurosurgery rotation? Confused.
The honest truth is, it doesn’t matter. Pick one where you won’t pay a fortune for housing.
