Very sorry if this has been posted before...have searched the site up and down and haven’t found much.
Question is simple:
Is there a point to doing a Sub-I at a place where you likely won’t match (e.g. based on board scores) just to get a letter?
Thanks all.
Sub-i letters are not as helpful as letters from places where the writer spent more than 4 weeks with you and knows you well. You’d be better off trying to get a paper in those 4 weeks and then getting a letter from the PI as well as the publication. On the other hand, doing a subI and working your tail off could help you get an interview at a place that may otherwise not interview you because of terrible scores.
