Hello all,

I am not sure how many of you are familiar with the Chicago Board Review Course held each year and organized by Dr. Kranzler.  I am currently in the process of organizing a surgical analogue to that course with Dr. Kranzler that will also be an annual event - the pilot session will be this year from 6/11/11-6/19/11.  The description is as follows:

A 9-day hands-on cadaver dissection course taught by expert senior and junior faculty designed to cover the spectrum of neurosurgical operations in as much depth as possible.  Topics will include peripheral nerve anatomy and surgery, cranial anatomy and surgery, spinal anatomy and surgery.  This course will hopefully provide comprehensive review for senior level residents and an exhaustive introduction to junior level residents.

The premise of the course is that with progressive restrictions in work hours, academic neurosurgery needs to revise its approach to resident training.  Hopefully this course will provide a solid foundation for those early in their residency and fill-in the gaps for those who are later in their training.

Now for the details:
Dates: As stated above, 6/11-6/19
Location: Chicago
General schedule will consist of 12-13 hour days of lectures followed by hands-on dissection.
Confirmed faculty (more are pending final schedule clearance):
Dr. Ossama Al-Mefty (Brigham)
Dr. Richard Byrne (Rush)
Dr. Ivan Ciric (Evanston/University of Chicago)
Dr. Robert Spinner (Mayo Clinic)
Dr. Gregory Bailey (St. Louis)
Dr. Paul Young (St. Louis)
Dr. John Shea (Loyola)
Dr. Patrik Gabikian (University of Chicago)
Dr. Reza Yassari (Albert Einstein)
Dr. Leonard Kranzler (University of Chicago)

The course is open to all residents (including those who just matched), though I imagine PGY1-4 might get the most use out of it.  There will eventually be official information about the course posted on the Chicago Board Review website: http://www.thechicagoreviewcourse.com/ns_about.html but I was hoping to get a sense of how much interest there is out there so that we can plan accordingly.  If interested, please send me a PM, or I suppose you can simply post on this thread.

Thanks, and hope to see you there.
