If any residents or practicing neurosurgeons are willing to teach, please enlighten us about this procedure. It seems like the major indication for it is obstructive hydrocephalus but are there other indications? How is it done? Why is it better or worse than a VP or VA shunt? Endoscopic Third Ventric.....please, ready to take notes.

this isn’t really the right venue to discuss such a broad and expansive topic.  your best bet would be to look through one of the introductory neurosurgery textbooks mentioned on this site, or even peruse ”neurosurgical focus,” an online repository of up-to-date information regarding all aspects of neurosurgery.  googling may work as well.

once we get more people contributing to our wiki, this site may be more useful from an informational standpoint.  until then, we all have to read and research the old-fashioned way.

There was a recent webcast on third ventriculostomy by the chairman of neurological surgery at Weill-Cornell on or-live.com. I enjoyed the show. Here’s a link: http://www.or-live.com/NYP/2553/
