Worth Rotating?

I’ll be doing an away rotation at a place next month, but have not gotten an interview offer from them yet. They have sent interview offers, but not rejections. If I don’t end up getting an interview, would it still be worth spending a month there so late in the fall? What if all of thier interview positions fill up? I have been getting interviews, just not from this one place.

Well think about it. If its a place you think you would want to go for residency, you’ll never get an interview by suddenly dropping the rotation. Doing the rotation, doing well on said rotation, and getting some solid LORs will definitely help your chances at that program and others as well. Besides, they may even interview you while you’re there. Why not give them a call and ask? It certainly can’t hurt, right?

I totally agree. It seems simple enough, but what I’m saying is...what if they give out all of their interviews before I get there for my rotation? It would suck if I got a rejection email from them a few days before I start the rotation.

Dude, they have interviews through January. You’ll be fine. When you get there, work your butt off for two weeks and if you still havent gotten anything, just be upfront and ask. I’m sure they’ll at least give you the courtesy of interviewing you. Its only reasonable as long as you’ve been satisfactory on the floors and in the OR. I mean, you’d really have to make an ass of yourself to not get an interview at a place you’re rotating at. I suspect you’ll be fine. Look at the very least, as long as its a halfway decent place, you’ll learn something and see some interesting cases while you’re there.

Sorry if it appeared that I am hi-jacking the thread but I’d like to take the liberty to ask a related question, since I think the question of the OP has been adequately addressed.

Considering most students graduate during the summer season, ca. June / July, they will receive their diploma shortly after, how can you prove that you have completed SubI after this time period then (e.g. in October), in term of transcript of record?

Just ask the rotation coordinator (usually an administrative person in the department or in the med school) to write a brief letter on school letterhead confirming the dates of your rotation.  If you need to prove how well you did, get a LOR from an attending there.
