Which programs are sub-i’s generally highly recommended/damn-near-required to secure an interview at their program?

I’ve heard if you want to go to UVA, it’s generally a good idea to do one there.  Is this true?  Any others like this?

You have to rotate at UVa to be considered.

Doing a sub-i at the BNI is damn-near-required to secure a spot in the program (3 of 4 this year were sub-i’s).  However, it isn’t required to secure an interview there.

This has been true over the years as well.

any others?
i’d like to add to the above comments

people keep saying that in previous years, people have matched at BNI without rotating there.  i think they are missing an important point; those that did rotate at BNI could well have ranked other places higher and matched there.  the final match list and whether or not they rotated certainly does not paint the whole picture.

I think you meant to say “did NOT rotate at BNI could have ranked other places higher and match there [BNI]..” At any rate, your comments are certainly true, but the bottom line is that the BNI ranks the students higher that rotate there.  (That is, of course, the students that they like).  I have heard this straight from Spetzler’s mouth.  If you want to match at BNI, your chances are highest when you rotate there.  I don’t think anyone can argue with this.
