Looking for a good introduction to neurosurgery for a med student.  I already have Blumenfeld’s Neuroanatomy through Clinical Cases, Greenberg, and a number of “inspirational story books”.  Greenberg is too much of a reference-type text for me right now.

I know my way around Blumenfeld, but knowledge of operative NS is not really present yet.  I tried to read Greenberg but found it difficult to read straight through.

Based on advice here, I’m considering Neurosurgical Essentials (Rahul Jandial, $50), or Neurosurgery Explained by Liebenberg, $80.

Which one would you pick one of these, or another <$100 book that is excellent for a med student.

Essentials is good.  Principles is a great looking book, too.

Interesting backstory behind Essentials...the dude who wrote it is chief at UCSD right now.  He wrote it as a junior resident.  Good book.

I’m an MS2 and I’ve checked out Jandial’s book through our interlibrary loan. Its has great illustrations of surgical approaches (for a medical student level) and its an easy read (I managed to read through a 1/3rd of it the first day I got it).

I’ve never heard of Liebenberg. Can someone comment on this book?
